Collaborations on grant proposals for employing colleges and universities:

In my 20-year career in higher education institutional research, I enabled many stakeholders to utilize data. Toward that end, I designed research studies; and analyzed, interpreted, and reported data.

Primary collaborative roles in grant proposal development for employing colleges and universities:

  • Collected, analyzed, and reported data for needs assessments.

  • Designed, wrote, and implemented assessment/evaluation plans.

I led these grant proposal processes (and collaborated on many others):

  1. Developed all institutional data reporting for the needs analysis section of a federal (Title III) grant proposal for Mid Michigan College (2014 – 2015).  We sought to increase degree completion and transfer-out rates among low-income, first generation, and disabled students through enhanced student services and academic support. We were awarded $1.7 million over five years.

  2. Developed and wrote the evaluation section of a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) grant proposal, in collaboration with natural sciences faculty at The College of Saint Benedict and St. John’s University (2007).  Our primary goal: Increase the numbers and diversity of students majoring and graduating in the natural sciences, collaborating with their disciplinary faculty on research projects, and then entering STEM careers.

  3. Consulted with two faculty members in humanities disciplines at The College of Saint Benedict and St. John’s University. Developed the needs assessment and evaluation plan for a foundation grant proposal aimed at enhancing evidence-based teaching and learning strategies (2007-08). Designed a survey instrument (to measure students’ attitudes toward and acquisition of distinguishing qualities of liberally educated persons). Constructed a representative sample of student respondents.
